William J. (jess) Pennington

William J. (Jess) Pennington, age 98, of Beaver, passed away Thursday January 21, 2016 at his home. He was born in Elliott County, Kentucky on May 30, 1917 to Isaac Green Pennington and Luvena (Triplett) Pennington. Jess was the last surviving sibling of this union. He is survived by his wife Peggy and step-son Tim Lewis (Suzanne) of Jacksonville, Florida. Surviving also from a previous marriage, William Stuart Pennington of Wellston, Connie Bobst (Robert) of Waverly and a daughter-in-law Ann Pennington of Chillicothe, also eleven grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jess was preceded in death by son Thomas Pennington, daughter Claudia Burton, grandson Jeffery Bobst, and granddaughter Jessica Fremder. Jess retired from Goodyear Corp., was a World War II Veteran, receiving the Purple Heart, four Bronze Stars and many other medals. He served on the Eastern Local School Board in the 1960's and served as an Auxiliary Patrolman. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Beaver Union Cemetery with Tom Savage officiating and military graveside services conducted by the American Legion Merritt Post #142 of Waverly. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Church Residences Home & Community Services Hospice of Waverly, 681 E. Third St., Waverly, Ohio 45690. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver.
