William James Dawson, age 83, of Pleasantville, Ohio, passed away Sunday September 4, 2022 at his residence. He was born May 16, 1939 in Auxier, Kentucky, a son of the late Ersel Dawson and Maudie Hill Dawson and foster son of the late T. and Wylodine Brown. He was united in marriage June 17, 1961 to his wife, Rosalee West Dawson, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Roy (Debra) Dawson of Thornville, Ohio, Rick (Loretta) Dawson of Junction City, Ohio, and Staci (Ryan) Smith of Hilliard, Ohio, seven grandchildren, Rachel (Patrick) Barnhart, Dustin (Brittany) Dawson, Tyler (Cody) Dawson, Seth (Fiance` Sarah Holbert) Dawson, Tucker (Sarah) Dawson, Garrett (Fiance` Audrey May) Dawson, and Brooklyn Smith, eleven great-grandchildren, Logan, Ethan, and Carter Barnhart, Kyleigh and Cohen Dawson, Henlee and Quinlynn Dawson, Elias Dawson, and Maddisyn, Elayna, and Raeleigh, two brothers, Ralph (Clair) Dawson of Grove City, Ohio and Paul (Margie) Dawson of Beaver, Ohio, one sister, Betty (Leo) Soukup of Wagner, South Dakota, foster siblings Mary, Marcia, Marlene, Melody, and Frank, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and foster parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Daniel “Danny” Dawson and three sisters, Phyllis Potter, Willodene Dawson and Palma Jane Dawson.
William was a U.S. Army Veteran and an avid hunter. He fiercely loved his wife of 61 years and his entire family.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday September 8, 2022 at the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio with Pastor Ronnie Hines officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaver Union Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Merritt Post #142 of Waverly. Visiting hours will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
