William Akers Obituary

  William Akers, age 87, of Wakefield, Ohio, died Friday June 23, 2017 at his residence. He was born January 29, 1930 in Floyd County, Kentucky, a son of the late Andy and Judy Hamilton Akers. He was united in marriage December 16, 1958 to his wife, Hazor M. Wicker Akers, who preceded him in death June 5, 2005. Surviving are one daughter, Willa Henry of Piketon, Ohio, three grandchildren, Cynthia Ann (Bill) Coleman Grubaugh of Lucasville, Ohio, Charles William (Kim) Henry Jr. of Missouri and Charlotte Henry (Brian Bollack) of Marion, Ohio, great-grandchildren, Bethanna Cantrell, Lane Cantrell, Stephanie Porter, Savanna Cantrell, Benjamin McWherter, Michael Henry, Sydnee Stepp, Becca Hopper, Jozlynn Hopper, Delanny Hopper, Brayden Hopper, Lucas Bollack, Zachariah Bollack, Keith Barger, Jacob Bollack and Jonathan Bollack, great-great-grandchildren, Kasarah Cantrell, Troy Lane Cantrell, Devan Cantrell, Walker Cantrell, Karma McWherter and Mercie McWherter and a very special friend, Marissa Buckner and her children, Nathan and Kiana Buckner. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Reva Hamilton, two grandchildren, Robbie Lee Henry and Jamie Lee Henry, three brothers, Robert Lee, Cecil and Richard Akers and two sisters, Gertrude Rogers and Lizzie Akers. William was a member of the Waverly Baptist Temple and was very invested in the Lord and his church. He was loved by all who knew him. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday June 30, 2017 at the Waverly Baptist Temple with Pastor Rick Goodman and Bro. Dee Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaver Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday June 29, 2017 beginning at 1:00 P.M. and continuing throughout the evening. A church service will take place Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
