Starkey Adkins, age 74, of Pikeville, Kentucky, formerly of Columbus and Beaver, died Thursday April 5, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born June 25, 1937 in Pikeville, Kentucky, the son of the late John Earl and America Runyon Adkins. On April 14, 1956 he married the former Helen Lee Lester who died February 6, 1998. Survivng are two daughters, Deborah (Donald) Blankenship of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, and Trina Adkins of Beaver, Ohio, seven grandchildren, America (Frank) Myers, Starkey Brian (Bridget) Adkins, Leann Blankenship, Donald (Sarita) Blankenship, Tara Adkins, Brooke Ruff, and Jacob Ruff, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Troy Adkins of Waverly, Ohio and Daniel Adkins of Pikeville, Kentucky, and many neices and nephews. He is survived by his second wife, Rowan Adkins. He was also preceded in death by one son and daughter-in-law, Starkey Brian Adkins and Christine Adkins, three brothers, Phillip "Bob" Adkins, Earl Adkins Jr, Gregory Adkins, and one sister, Alene Blackburn.
Mr. Adkins was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday April 9, 2012 at the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio with Pastor Rodney Bapst officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Wheelersburg, Ohio with military graveside services held by the James Dickey American Legion Post #23 of Portsmouth. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
