Oma Kallner Obituary

Oma Jean Kallner, age 72, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, died Tuesday October 29, 2024 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born February 10, 1952 in Ethel, West Virginia, a daughter of the late James Marcum and Nell Jean Baisden Marcum. Surviving are her children, Isom Messer of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Betty (James) Gifford of Walker, West Virginia, and a special granddaughter she raised as a daughter, Kayla (Derek) Slusher, additional grandchildren, Ethan (Kerra) Kallner, Erik Kallner, Joseph Kallner, Carly Gifford, and Thomas Gifford, great-grandchildren, Kalina Waugh, Braedon Slusher, Haelynn Slusher, Kinzlie Kallner, and Karter Kallner, two brothers, John Marcum of Waverly, Ohio and James Marcum Jr. of Ott, Alabama, and a host of nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Mendy Marcum-Thornsberry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Anthony Messer, a brother, Roger Ellis, two sisters, Wanda Marcum and Judy Adams, a special step-mother, Bernice Marcum, and two special sisters-in-law, Linda Marcum and Eloise Marcum.

Oma was employed at General Mills for over 20 years. She was extremely passionate about her children and grandchildren and didn’t know a stranger, as her home was always open to everyone. She was an amazing cook, especially when it came to her fried chicken and chicken and dumplings. Oma found great joy spending time with her rough collies along with collecting lighthouses and chicken figurines. She had an impenetrable faith in the Lord and as her health declined, she was never afraid. She had a smile until the end.

Visiting hours will be held from 12-3:00 P.M. Saturday November 2, 2024 at the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio.
