John “Squirrel” R. Holbrook, age 60, of Waverly, Ohio, fell into eternal sleep in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 30, 2022. John’s family knew him as “Johnny Regan”, and the rest of the world knew him as “Squirrel”. John was born February 22, 1962 in Chillicothe, Ohio to William “Speck” and Lorine (Knipp) Holbrook. John was preceded in death by both parents and sister-in-law, Carolyn Holbrook. He is survived by one son, Cordell Johnny Holbrook (Katie) and two grandsons, Dawson and Cordell Johnny Jr. “CJ”. He is survived by brothers, Roger Holbrook of Jackson, Ohio, Rob (Cathy) Holbrook of Beaver, Ohio, Joseph (Mary) Holbrook of Beaver, Ohio, and sisters, Lee (Jesse) Pennington of Beaver, Ohio and Melissa (David) Miller of Beaver, Ohio. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, a special nephew, Mitchell Holbrook, who stayed by his side until the end, and a special aunt, Phyllis Ross.
John was an operating engineer (equipment operator) for nearly 30 years. He was a proud honorary member of the Beaver VFW Post # 9942, member of the Waverly Moose Lodge#2263, and the Ohio Operating Engineers Union Local 18.
For several years, John was the “family miracle”. He was a forty-five year survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He lived each of those forty-five years to the fullest. He had a love of Harley Davidsons, NASCAR, and his family. He left such a mark on his family, friends, and community and will be missed by many.
