Doris Wendel Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Wendel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on February 25, 2025, in Beaver, Ohio. Doris was born on January 6, 1932, to William Harvey Fuller and Pearl Browne Fuller. She lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and a selfless dedication to her family.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl; her brothers, Howard, Ernest, and Robert; her sister, Mary Ruth Fuller (Beymer); and her two beloved sons, Thomas Herman and Steven Jay Wendel. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her devoted husband, Robert Wendel; her adoring granddaughters, Samantha (Steven) Eden and Taylor Wendel; grandsons, Daniel (Samantha) Wendel, Steven Likens, and Jay Wendel; as well as many great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Doris and Robert built a life filled with joy and partnership, spending every moment together in a love that was palpable to all who knew them. Doris’ warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and even strangers will be deeply missed. She had a generous spirit and a compassionate heart that touched countless lives, and her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

For many years, Doris worked at the Big Bear grocery store in Columbus, Ohio, before embracing her role as a full-time mother to her sons, Tom and Steve. Her employment history was characterized by her dedication to serving others, whether in her work or in her home. Doris was an active member of the Beaver community and cherished her time at her local church. She often reminisced about her daily trips to the old IGA grocery store and the occasional pizza from Emma’s, moments that brought her joy and connection to those around her.

Doris enjoyed long conversations about life, her beloved family, and, of course, what sugary treat she would indulge in next. She had a knack for bringing laughter to every gathering, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, yet she understood when serious conversations were necessary. Her beautiful white hair was always permed and ready for the next adventure, reflecting her vibrant spirit.

Throughout her life, Doris was known for her generosity and willingness to help others. Whether sharing canned goods from her pantry, cooking a meal, or even offering the shirt off her back, she exemplified selflessness and compassion. She prayed daily and never asked for anything in return, embodying the very essence of giving.

Doris’ spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire us all to be better people. She will be profoundly missed, but her light will shine brightly in our memories forever.

Visitation and funeral service for Doris will be held at Cox Burkitt Funeral Home (5856 Beaver Pike, Beaver, Ohio 45613), on Sunday March 2, 2025, from Noon – 2:00pm, where family and friends can gather to celebrate her life and share their cherished memories.
