Donald Conn Obituary

Donald W. "Walt" Conn, age 71, of Beaver, Ohio, formerly of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Thursday May 21, 2015 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 21, 1943 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of Imogene Bowman Duncan of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and the late Arthur Conn. Surviving are his step-mother, Ann Conn of Port Clinton, Ohio, former wife Brenda Lunsford Hatt of Beaver, Ohio, grandchildren Heather (Dave) Jones of Beaver, Ohio, Ashley Olvera of Beaver, Ohio, Shawn (Meredith) Olvera of Hartford, Connecticut, Joseph Goetz III of Portsmouth, Ohio, Amber (Brian) Charles of Lucasville, Ohio and David Maund Jr. of Erie, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Kaylee and Reese Jones of Beaver, Ohio, Bryant Gage and Steven Brodhi Charles, Noah, Ayla, Xavier, Shawn Jr. and Cassira Olvera and Hayley and Haygen Maund, four sisters, Johanna Gifford of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Donna (Harry) Butterbaugh of Shreve, Ohio, Kathy (Eugene) Levis of Port Clinton, Ohio and Virginia Conn of Georgia, one brother, Rusty Conn of Pennsylvania, a brother-in-law, George Bice of Port Clinton, Ohio and special companions, Connie Hart of Piketon, Ohio and Carol Maund of Erie, Pennslyvania. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lesa Goetz, one grandson, Luke Olvera, one sister, Babara Bice, one brother Raymond Conn and a former companion Martha Jonas. Mr. Conn's greatest joy was raising his grandchildren and spending time with his family. In 1997 he founded the Southern Ohio Boxing Club in his basement in West Portsmouth, Ohio and later moved the club the Portsmouth Armory. Other passions included prospecting, working with leather and doing mechanic work. Mr. Conn was also an avid lover of animals and nature. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will not be observed. A memorial dinner will be held Saturday May 23, 2015 at 4:30 P.M. at his residence, located at 7070 St. Rt. 335, Apt. 4, Beaver, Ohio, and family and friends are welcome to attend. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio.
