Cheryl Cox Obituary

Cheryl L. Cox, age 67, of Piketon, Ohio, died Sunday July 28, 2013 at her residence after a courageous battle with an extended illness. She was born December 22, 1945 in Vinton County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Roy Elmer Ross and Mazel Irene Adkins Ross of Piketon, Ohio. Mrs. Cox was united in marriage July 17, 1970 to her husband, David L. Cox, who preceded her in death August 26, 2009. In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Bo (Rena) Cox of Minford, Ohio, one daughter, Robin (Richard) Lavigne of Waterboro, Maine, four grandchildren, Lexie Cox, Austin Sexton, Marie Lavigne and Christina Lavigne, one great-grandchild, Gage Easton Ruck, four brothers, Charles (Rinda) Ross of Piketon, Ohio, Galen (Pam) Ross of Beaver, Ohio, Blaine (Jeannie) Ross of Piketon, Ohio and Patrick (Shelly) Ross of Piketon, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Joanne Ross of Piketon, Ohio, and numerous nieces, nephews and very special friends. In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Ross. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Happy Hollow Church of Christ for 24 years. Receiving her Funeral Director's license on November 14, 1985, she became the first female Funeral Director in Pike County and she and her husband owned and operated the Cox Funeral Home, serving the community for over 34 years. She also served on the Beaver Village Council for four years. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday July 31, 2013 at the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio with Bro. David Adkins and Bro. Danny Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross Family Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8:00 P.M. Tuesday July 30, 2013 at the funeral home. The family would want to thank National Church Residence Home & Community Services, formerly InCare Hospice, and their staff for all of their kindness and support they provided.
