Richard Freeland Roe, age 83, of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Friday March 8, 2013 at the Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was born August 7, 1929 in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Dennie and Lizzie Land Roe. Mr. Roe was united in marriage May 14, 1955 to his wife, Sylvia Colley Roe, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Charles Richard (Judith) Roe of Portsmouth, Ohio, one daughter, Rhonda (Phillip) Ramsey of Ironton, Ohio, three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Raymond, Elmer, Willie and Everett Roe and two infant sisters, Maxine and Loraine Roe.
Mr. Roe was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the I.P.C.C. Church in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday March 11, 2013 at the Grandview Church located on Hay Hollow Rd. with Pastor Gary Shonkwiler officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion-Merritt Post #142 of Waverly. Friends may call from 4-6:00 P.M. Sunday March 10, 2013 at the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio.
