David Eugene Pendell (“Oink”)

David Eugene Pendell, (age 87), of Meadow Run Road, Waverly, OH, died peacefully at home on March 4, 2024. He was born on August 13, 1936 on Meadow Run Rd in Waverly, OH, the son of William David Pendell and Edna Mae (Rider) Pendell of Waverly, OH. On August 18, 1956 Eugene was united in marriage to Ruby Jean (Mullins) Pendell, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter: Rebecca Jean Pendell (Julie Fox) of Piketon, OH; sister Wilma Maxine Pratt of Orient, OH and nephew David Pratt (Juli) of Gahana, OH; sister-in-law Judy Pendell of Waverly, OH; niece: Melissa Pendell Waddell (Leonard Swango) of Latham, OH; nephew Dr. Brad Pendell, wife Andrea, and their children Adin, Abigail, and Asher of Chillicothe, OH; brother-in-law Charles Jake (Vicky) Mullins of Piketon, OH; sister-in-law Evelyn Burrier (Paul) of Sun City, AZ; and additional relatives from the Mullins, Pendell, and Rider families. His father, mother, brother Lowell Weldon Pendell, brother-in-law Paul Pratt, nephew Dennis Pratt, and nephew Rick Cantrell, preceded him in death.

David Eugene graduated from Piketon High School in 1954, began his career at A&P grocery store, and retired from Kroger in 1992. He enjoyed hunting, playing Euchre, sharing a good joke, caring for his mother, and spending time with friends and neighbors, including the Abram and Esther Peachey family.

Special thanks to everyone who shared kindness and visited Eugene as his dementia progressed. It was the family’s goal to care for him at home during his illness. And that was made possible, thanks to the loving care of the Adena Hospice Team; Jake and Vicky Mullins; Drew, David, and Julie Thornsberry; Morgan Salisbury; and Julie Fox. To honor the family’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.  Please celebrate Eugene’s memory in your own ways.
